Resolve cPanel DNS error when adding domain

'Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server.' Find out how to fix this error.

Are you receiving a DNS related error when adding a new Parked or Addon domain in WHM/cPanel? If so, you most likely need to adjust a simple setting to allow the domains to be added.

The error in question:
Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

You can resolve this error with one of the following methods:

Solution 1 - Allowing Remote Domains

  1. Go to WHM > Tweak Settings > Domains > Allow Remote Domains
  2. Switch the option to On and click Save. It should look like this:

Solution 2 - Adding Additional DNS IP's

The second solution to this error would be to add additional DNS IP's that this domain is hosted on. This will allow all domains using those DNS servers to be added to your cPanel installation without allowing all domains to be added, regardless of their DNS, in the first solution.

  1. Go to Main > IP Functions > Configure Remote Service IPs > Remote DNS IPs
  2. Add the necessary IP addresses of the nameservers here and click on Save
